Induction

 The college induction process is very important for new students that are coming to West Lothian college as this will enable them to get there first impressions of their respective courses and gives them the chance to meet their classmates and key lecturers. They will get to go around have a look at the college facilities such as the canteen and student funds as well as the library. It is also an important time to inquire about additional information that you may want to find out before the course that you are on starts so it would be advisable to talk to your key lecturer about any question that you may have regarding the course.



 Organisation

 Another thing that new students will have to make sure that they are prepared for is that they have to have all the materials that they need for the respective course as you will need to supply your own equipment from notebooks, pens, rulers, calculators . Any notes that you take it would be advisable to rewrite or type them if you have quickly noted them down from a lecturer, but keeping every piece of work neat and put into a filing folder so you will be able to track down what you need for each subject with very little effort.

There is a variety of ways of getting to college and this is because of its ease of accessibility, the cheapest and most convenient way of getting to college is if you live over 3 miles away, you can get a bus pass that allows you to get on the First Bus’ completely free, as long as you remember to renew your pass every month, then you won’t be paying a penny to get to the college. With the college being so easily accessible, you could drive down or get a lift from a friend or even a family member, if you will be driving her yourself, make sure you get to the student car park early to guarantee getting a parking spot.

Use Facilities/Resources like student support/lecturer if you fall behind or need help (personal or other)

  It's ok to ask for support if you find you’re feel falling behind, there are many resources for help around the college such as lecturers and the support base. The only way the college can help you to be a successful student is by asking for help in the first place. Things such as lecturers staying behind to give extra tuitions can then be arranged and you’ll be caught up with the work in no time. Even if situations outside college are getting too much, it would be wise to let the support base/your key lecturer know that there may be reasons as to why you’re not working to your best standards so that they can look out for you.
